Study on SDG Achievement in West Bandung Regency: Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities
To support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), local governments—including those at the provincial, regency, and city levels—are responsible for aligning their targets and programs with those of the central government. Part of this responsibility includes regularly monitoring and evaluating the Regional Action Plan for SDGs implementation, typically conducted every six months or as needed, with data and support from local government sources. In this context, forecasting the achievement of SDG indicators becomes essential.
In recent years, including 2023, West Bandung Regency has partnered with the SDGs Center at Padjadjaran University to prepare the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Report. This collaboration is instrumental in shaping projections that not only serve the regency but also contribute to SDG goals at the provincial and national levels for 2030. The current study focuses on creating a comprehensive report to project SDG achievement, assessing progress under business-as-usual (BAU) conditions, and sharing insights on the trajectory of SDG achievement specific to West Bandung Regency.
This study encompasses 66 indicators, carefully chosen based on data availability, with some goals excluded (SDGs 12, 13, 14, and 15). The data was collected from multiple reputable sources, including the Central Statistics Agency, the Ministry of Manpower’s Data and Information Center, the Ministry of Health, West Java Province’s Basic Health Research, the Ministry of Finance, the National Social Security Council, the Indonesian Disaster Information Data, and the Ministry of Communication and Information.
The results offer projections based on achievement levels assigned across five score categories:
- SCORE A: Achieves or nearly achieves 97.5% of the SDG target
- SCORE B: Approaches the SDG target, achieving at least 90%
- SCORE C: Reaches more than 75% of the SDG target
- SCORE D: Achieves 50% of the SDG target
- SCORE E: Falls below 50% of the SDG target, requiring substantial improvement
Several indicators currently score at levels C, D, and E, which highlights areas needing targeted efforts from the West Bandung Regency government and associated stakeholders. These scores emphasize that achieving these targets will require more than maintaining the status quo. Improving these indicators calls for concerted efforts, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration to overcome existing limitations.
Given the available resources, the West Bandung Regency government must prioritize efforts. Key areas of focus include poverty reduction and stunting prevention, while also strengthening outcomes on closely related indicators, such as maternal health service accessibility, birth certificate ownership, access to clean drinking water and sanitation, junior high school completion rates, affordable and adequate housing, equitable primary school enrollment, and crime reduction.
Through these prioritized initiatives, West Bandung Regency aims to make significant strides in SDG achievement, paving the way for sustainable and inclusive growth aligned with the national and global SDG framework.
