Public Lecture: Development Studies “Introduction, Postgraduate Opportunities, and Career Prospects”

Bandung, June 30, 2025 – In this lecture, Professor Andy Sumner—Professor of International Development at King’s College London and President of the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI)—provided an in-depth introduction to Development Studies (DS) as a multidisciplinary field. He explained how DS differs from Development Economics and highlight the contributions of disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, and international relations. The session also covered common scientific methodologies used in DS research.

Importantly, Professor Sumner discussed postgraduate study opportunities and career prospects in the field. This lecture was particularly relevant for students and early-career lecturers from across faculties at Universitas Padjadjaran and beyond who are seeking to broaden their academic horizons and explore future pathways in development research and practice.
